Construction

The cap is blue with red piping and band, a rear seam and a black patent chinstrap, and officers wear small engraved buttons.

The common male-officer forage cap is cloth with three cloth welts, the upper welt lying in the crown seam.

The common male-officer forage-cap sides are made in four pieces and are 2⅛ inches deep between the welts.

A 1¾-inch cloth or velvet band is placed between the two lower welts of the common male-officer forage cap.

The common male-officer forage-cap chinstrap is ½-inch black patent leather, secured by two buttons immediately behind the peak corners.

The common male-officer forage-cap peak is patent leather, droops at an angle and is 2 inches deep at the centre.

Rank Distinction

The Field Officer pattern has plain silver passing embroidery three-quarters of an inch wide on the outer edge of the peak; the catalogue lists the cap for Field Officers and the Corps Adjutant.

Badge Placement

The officer's small silver badge is centred on the red band with the Vickers machine gun pointing to the right.

Measurement

At a 21¾-inch head circumference, the common male-officer forage-cap top is 10½ inches in diameter; its diameter changes by ⅛ inch for each ¼-inch change in head size.
